Economics

Economics is a social science that studies how people make the best use of resources. At Wright State, you can learn how economics offers a logical and ordered way of looking at problems faced by individuals, organizations, government, and society. Your study of economics will include:

  • Understanding economic models
  • Analyzing individual decision-making
  • Critical thinking
  • Evaluating assumptions and implications
  • Applications to real-world problems
  • Important historical developments in the world economy

Our department offers two different bachelor’s degrees in economics. The B.S.B. in business economics is an AACSB-accredited program that requires both our business core and Introduction to Econometrics classes. It offers outstanding training for careers in business and many other arenas, especially those with a focus on data analytics. The BA in economics provides students with rigorous training in economic theory and reasoning, while offering a more flexible course of study suitable for those students who do not have time to complete the business core, including those interested in a second major. Our B.A. alumni have built successful careers in business, government, and the non-profit sector. The B.A. is housed in the Raj Soin College of Business and is supported by its advisors and faculty but is not an AACSB-accredited program. It has recently been redesigned to support students with a desire to earn a valuable, market-oriented degree, outside of the quantitatively demanding AACSB accredited programs we also offer. Explore the changes made to the newly redesigned Economics B.A.
