Wright State celebrated its thirteenth final four placing case competition team at the annual IMA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. This year’s team consisted of Karla Kober and Jeff Szkody (Master’s of Accountancy), Kate Lash and Candice Stetler (seniors, Accountancy and Finance), Corey Pennington (junior, Accountancy and Finance), and Dr. Dave Bukovinsky, faculty advisor. The case centered on Keenan’s Irish pub, and the students developed suggestions to increase the operational effectiveness and profitability of the pub which was located in a languishing economy.
Wright State has an unprecedented history in this competition and its teams are able to go beyond the classroom to enhance problem –solving and presentation skills. Aside from competing, attending the conference was an excellent opportunity to network with CMAs, learn about careers, and become more involved with the IMA as students members. As always, the Dayton Chapter was very accommodating. Even though the Raiders did not come home with a first place finish, going to the conference was a terrific experience for everyone involved.
