David Rose was recently named 2003-2004 Volunteer of the Year for Junior Achievement in the Michigan Great Lakes region. Rose, a senior vice president and controller at United Bank of Michigan in Grand Rapids, has been a Junior Achievement volunteer for twelve years. He teaches basic economics in elementary grades one through four in both the Wayland Union and Byron Center school districts. Rose tells every class he works with that the skills he learned in elementary school – reading, writing, math and problem solving – are used every day in his job. He also tells students that their most important job today is being the best student that they can be. His most important goal is to make the connection in students’ minds that school will impact their lives as adults.
