Incoming First-Year Students Look Forward to their First Fall Semester with the Added Challenge of the COVID-19 Pandemic

“Every time I step foot into the college, I am amazed,” said William Shaffer, who has just finished high school and will be a first-year finance major in the Fall. “The staff and current students are always very welcoming and accommodating. The thing that draws me to it the greatest is what the college actually contains within. The facilities are some of the best I have ever seen, I am very impressed by the DAVE Lab and the Soin Trading Center. And I can definitely picture myself creating my future there,” said William.

The Raj Soin College of Business is the right college for many.  Each year, the college welcomes hundreds of new students to join the family of over two thousand.  For many first-time college students, this feels like home. The college offers flexible formats of courses with face-to-face, online, and hybrid deliveries so students can find what suits their schedule the best.  All of our general education and business core courses are transferable, so many students can have a jump start with their major.

The campus has released its plan for reopening in the fall.  The university and college are making careful preparations for the Fall campus reopening.  The health and safety of students and employees are of the highest priority.  Plans are being developed and updated, so university operations will follow health protocols and provide the best educational experiences for the students under the circumstances.

The first day of Fall Semester is August 24, and courses will be delivered in various formats including in-person, online, and hybrid.  “We are excited to welcome new and returning students.  Most have already enrolled for the Fall, and are ready to begin the semester with a wide variety of combinations of in-person, remote, and hybrid courses,” said Shu Schiller, Ph.D., associate dean of the Raj Soin College of Business.

“I believe it is very important for a student to have a personal relationship with their professors,” said Shaffer.  The college recognizes the importance of interactive instruction between students and professors and will do all it can to support them.  The college’s strong focus on experiential learning will also continue under all instructional modes, allowing business students to continue learning from real-world experience by working with companies through capstone projects, independent studies, internships, and more.

“We encourage students to confirm their Fall classes and set their weekly schedule now so they can have better control of their time on campus.  The college has an amazing team of advisors and staff to support students through the new semester.  We are here to help, so no one would be held back because of the challenge imposed by the pandemic.

“Student leaders in the college can’t wait to welcome new incoming students.  They have a wonderful mentoring program that can help students get familiar with classes, professors, and campus activities fairly quickly.  We believe many business students will rise to lead and some will become future presidents of student organizations!” added Schiller.
