The Raj Soin College of Business Readies itself for the Fall 2020 Semester and the Return to Campus

Empty Classroom

The first half of 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. The entire world has adapted and changed the way they work, learn, and communicate with each other. While the faculty and staff in the Raj Soin College of Business continue to work remotely, they miss seeing the students every day and are looking forward to the college’s returning students, in both remote and on-campus settings for the Fall Semester.

The college’s primary goal is to continue providing the best education possible for its students while maintaining the protocols needed to keep the students, faculty, and broader community safe from the coronavirus. This includes offering instruction in all formats: in-person, remote, and flexible delivery.  Students will be able to progress, on pace, toward the completion of their respective degree programs. Experiential learning will continue in as many classes and extracurricular activities as possible.

Beth Hunter, chief financial officer at Speedway, LLC, and an alumnus of the college shares the following encouragement for Wright State business students to keep working toward the goal of earning their degree: "I started at Wright State University in September 1983 as a first-generation college student, participated as a Wright state student-athlete and received my bachelor’s degree four years later. The Raj Soin College of Business has always been a shining star that has received many accolades over the years.  The welcoming atmosphere and the strong desire of faculty and staff to ensure student success are just a couple of many differentiators at the Raj Soin College of Business.  A business degree from Wright State was the stepping stone that launched my career—it can be yours as well."

The college’s faculty have been working on identifying effective and workable mixes of in-person and remote instruction for each of their classes so that student learning is best accomplished. The delivery mode for many business classes has already been updated on Wings Express, the class scheduling platform. If the class lists “Delivery Mode TBD,” the faculty member is still reviewing the best options for delivering class material, and students will be notified via email by the academic department offering the class if the meeting pattern or delivery mode has changed for any of their fall classes.

Students returning to campus in the Fall will notice it feels different. There will be new protocols, which everyone must follow to keep the campus community safe. These include social distancing, daily health self-assessments, hand washing, surface cleaning, and face coverings. For in-person class sessions, classrooms have been reconfigured to accommodate social distancing requirements and will have COVID-19 capacities that are about half of their normal capacity. Classrooms will be cleaned frequently, and cleaning supplies will be made available to students, faculty, and staff to keep workspaces clean.  Additionally, classroom use will be staggered as much as possible to maintain sufficient distancing in hallways.

The college is excited to welcome students back to campus and wants students to know that while many things will be new and different, everyone will continue to be focused on providing the outstanding education that students have come to expect from the Raj Soin College of Business!
