An education in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or with a nonprofit organization. In the economics program, you will study how societies, governments, businesses, households, and individuals create, use, manage, and distribute resources.
Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and market changes, an important skill in today’s changing business environment. Economists also study and help develop public policies like healthcare and education reform. A minor in economics will equip you with the skills to make better decisions in a business environment, on public policy, and even in your personal choices.
Graduates from the Department of Economics go on to make a positive impact in both the Dayton area and beyond. Our graduates have gone on to work in business across many industries, in governmental agencies, and in the nonprofit sector.
We encourage you to apply skills learned in the classroom through experiences with local organizations. You will learn from qualified professionals who actively work in the field of economics and work on significant human resource projects, allowing you to apply your classroom education to real-world situations. Our award-winning faculty work on cutting-edge research projects that impacts at the local, national, and global level.

The economics minor is open to business and non-business majors. You can be admitted to the economics minor program once you are a junior and are in a major program.
If you are a current student and meet these requirements, go to the WINGS Major/Minor change request form or talk to your advisor about adding a minor.
The minor program in economics requires you to take two required economics courses and three economics electives. You can take a combination of courses focused on specific issues in economics such as public sector economics and law, history, growth and development, social issues, individual markets, and more. However, you can take any combination of economics electives.
