A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or with a nonprofit organization. In this program, you can take an accelerated path to the Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. You will take two graduate-level economics electives during your senior year that count towards both your bachelor’s and master’s requirements.
Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and market changes, an important skill in today’s changing business environment. Economists also study and help develop public policies like health care and education reform. Our program will equip you with the skills to make better decisions in a business environment, on public policy, and even in your personal choices.
Our bachelor graduates from the Department of Economics have gone on to work in businesses across many industries, in governmental agencies, and in the nonprofit sector. Our students who graduated from 2013-2015 have an 80 percent placement by date graduation and 88 percent three months after graduation. The starting average salary of those graduates was $49,300.
A degree in economics offers you great potential for career growth earnings are expected to increase significantly over the span of a career. Average salaries of full-time employees with a terminal degree in business economics is $75,000 and average salaries of graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics are $70,000, the highest among the social science majors group, according to the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University.

To enter one of the bachelor programs in economics, review the admission requirements and complete the admission application. Identify whether you will be majoring in economics.
If you are a current student and wish to change majors, go to the WINGS major/minor change request form and change your major. If you are an undecided/exploratory student, talk to your advisor about majoring in economics.
We offer a Bachelor of Business with a major in business economics through the Raj Soin College of Business or a Bachelor of Arts with a major in economics in partnership with the College of Liberal Arts (CoLA). If you choose the business economics program, you are required to complete a broad foundation in business courses along with completing classes focused on economics and economic issues. The economics program in the College of Liberal Arts requires you to complete the general education classes required by CoLA along with your economics courses. Both programs equip you to pursue careers in business, government, and nonprofit sector or for graduate study in programs like economics, business, or law.
If you complete this combined program, you will graduate with a Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. In this program, you will be encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem-solving.
