Why Choose Management Information Systems?

Businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies are increasingly relying on data to drive decision-making, increase productivity and profitability. Every action we take, from donating blood to buying groceries, is recorded and analyzed to better serve you. Graduates who can make sound decisions when choosing, implementing, and using these systems are in high demand locally, nationally, and globally.

Our program was the first business school program in Ohio accredited by the Computer Accreditation Commission of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and one of the first twenty programs nationally to achieve this accreditation. Careers

The field of information systems management is continuing to grow as demand for professionals who can implement and upgrade computer systems are vital to the economy. This major prepares you for careers that require knowledge in systems analysis, business systems designs, and information technology management. Most of our graduates leave with internships or job opportunities.

Real-World Experience

Classes are focused on experiential learning, allowing students to apply concepts learned in class to real-world situations. We encourage our students to take internships during their summer semesters. Internships are coordinated through the college’s career management office, which makes sure you are aware of hiring information and job and internships announcements.

Admission

Review the admission requirements and complete the admission application. Identify whether you will be majoring in management information systems.

If you are a current student and wish to change majors, go to the WINGS major/minor change request form and change your major. If you are an undecided/exploratory student, talk to your advisor about majoring in management information systems.

Program Outcomes

In this program, you will get a broad education in core business skills such as accounting, finance, marketing, management, and operations management along with emphasizing business and organizational studies and information systems technology. You will study business systems analysis, business system design, and computer programming. You will also focus on developing, implementing, and maintaining information systems in a variety of organizational environments. Coursework includes information system design, development methodologies, database management systems, electronic business, and data communications.

Within this major, you can choose the business analytics concentration, which focuses on using data to better understand business operations, predict customer demands, monitor production, and improve efficiency and quality.

ABET Accreditation

Our Bachelor of Science program in Management Information Systems is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET under the General Criteria and the Information Systems Program Criteria.

Program Educational Objectives

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) embraced by the undergraduate MIS program are as follows:

1. Prepare individuals to become principals in deploying information technology to support organizations. 
2. Prepare individuals to become leaders in understanding, performing, and managing the process of information systems development. 
3. Prepare individuals for careers in information technology or for completing a graduate school program. 
4. Prepare individuals for a process of lifelong learning.

The Student Outcomes (SOs) 

The Student Outcomes (SOs) for MIS majors graduating from the program are utilized as given by ABET for programs falling into the Computer Accreditation Commission. Graduates of the program will have the ability to:

1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program's discipline
3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program's discipline.
6. Support the delivery, use, and management of information within an information systems environment.

In addition to teaching the techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice, our program and coursework aim to teach students the principles and practice for privacy and security in computing at the organizational and personal levels.
