Our business world is fast growing with data. Modern organizations need to quickly understand a vast amount of data and extract the relevant and valuable information so the best decisions can be made in a timely fashion. Careers

The career outlook for business analytics professionals is increasingly attractive. McKinsey, Gartner, and other research agencies report that the U.S. could face a shortage of 190,000 individuals who possess deep business analytic skills and an additional 1.5 million managers with the skill set to implement the results. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Payscale.com, average salaries of business analytics positions range between $75,000 and $88,000 with a bachelor’s degree and go above $90,000 with a master's degree.

Real-World Experience

In your finance coursework, you will learn from qualified professionals who are active in finance issues and work on projects that allow you to apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations. Our investing class allows students to manage a real portfolio worth $1.2 million in our award-winning Soin Trading Center. Qualified finance and financial services majors can gain real-world experience through an internship or cooperative education experience, and through a capstone course where you develop a comprehensive financial plan for an individual or business. Internships are one-time work arrangement that gives you a chance to put your classroom knowledge to work in a business setting while cooperative education experiences allow you to alternate periods of work and school—both give you experience that will help you in your career goals. Contact the Department of Finance and Financial Services for more information.

Our finance club is active and hosts guest speakers, field trips to Chicago and New York City, and networking opportunities with employers and alumni. Our Leading Innovation in Finance Today and Tomorrow (LIFT2) symposium brings leading experts to discuss the most pressing issues in the world of finance and financial services today.
