Why Choose Economic Issues?

An education in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or with a nonprofit organization. In this program, you will study how societies, governments, businesses, households, and individuals create, use, manage, and distribute resources.

This certificate program focuses on using economics to understand and come up with solutions to the important issues in today’s society. You will study things like the economics of poverty, discrimination, diversity, law, regional and urban systems, international policy, or the political economy of women.

Careers

Our bachelor graduates from the Department of Economics have gone on to work in businesses across many industries, in governmental agencies, and in the nonprofit sector. Our students who graduated from 2013–2015 have an 80 percent placement by date of graduation and 88 percent three months after graduation. The starting average salary of those graduates was $49,300.

Program Outcomes

If you complete this program, you will receive a certificate in economic issues. You will take 18 credit hours in economics classes focused on critical economic issues. This certificate is a valuable addition to nearly any other major and can be completed in addition to another major or by a returning non-degree student.
