Real-World Experience

Several of our marketing courses are focused on experiential learning, giving you the opportunity to gain experience by solving real business challenges and working with local businesses and executives.

You can develop marketing plans for local startups, or cultivate your own ideas as part of regular classwork. You will work with local entrepreneurs and businesses, like those affiliated with the Small Business Development Center, Air Force Research Labs, The Entrepreneur’s Center, and Wright State Research Institute. Our American Marketing Association of Wright State University (known as the Marketing Club) gives you the chance to develop professionally by applying your skills outside of the classroom.

Success Stories

At Kettering Health Network, I've had the opportunity to work a on a lot of different projects, in different areas of marketing. I've worked on multiple ad campaigns for radio, print, mailers, and outdoor ads. I'm currently learning how to do media buys, how to help improve our Internet search engine results, and look for opportunities in the market that we can capitalize on. I was recently given a facility for which I will be solely be responsible for their marketing efforts. I've hit the ground running at this job, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

"My business is called Cline's Closet an online store that sells new or used clothes and shoes. Surprisingly I have doubled sales revenue each year. Since 2014 gross sales have climbed year to year from $5,600 to $34k, to $65k and on pace in 2017 for $120k.

Admission

The management minor is open to business and non-business majors. You can be admitted to the management minor program once you are a junior and are in a major program.

If you are a current student and meet these requirements, go to the WINGS Express Major/Minor change request form or talk to your advisor about adding a minor.

Program Outcomes

The marketing program prepares you to work in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer organization. You will learn about the motivations and behaviors and motivations of consumers, how to impact those behaviors, and how to satisfy your costumers sustainably. Learn to create, communicate, and sell, with a thorough foundation in global issues, digital technologies, and data insights. We will teach you how to apply the marketing concepts and planning taught in the classroom in real-world situations.
