In today’s business environment, graduates skilled in creative problem solving and risk taking with the ability to see new opportunities are in high demand. An entrepreneurship minor can help you learn those skills and equip you with the experiences necessary to succeed in a business environment or start your own venture.
If you are eager to learn, customer focused, creative, and have strong technical, planning, or organizational abilities, then minoring in entrepreneurship can benefit you in nearly any career field or industry.
Graduates equipped with the skills of an entrepreneur are valued across all industries. An entrepreneurship minor is not only for students interested in owning their own business. Many companies are looking for employees with entrepreneurial attitudes and characteristics who contribute to positive change. Graduates in our Department of Marketing, which offers the entrepreneurship minor, have gone on to work at some of the biggest companies in the region.
If you are looking to launch your own new venture, the entrepreneurship minor can provide you with the skills and experiences to start, finance, commercialize, and manage your new business.
Entrepreneurship courses are geared towards experiential learning, giving you the opportunity to apply concepts learned in class to real-world situations. You gain experience by solving real business challenges and working with local businesses and executives. Students can develop business plans for local startups, or even cultivate their own ideas as part of regular classwork. You can develop business plans for local start-ups, or even cultivate your own ideas as apart of regular classwork. You will work with local entrepreneurs and businesses, like those affiliated with the Small Business Development Center, Air Force Research Labs, The Entrepreneur’s Center, and Wright State Research Institute.
The Entrepreneurship Club is open to students of all majors (not just those majoring or minoring in entrepreneurship) and will feature speakers from major businesses, networking and mentoring with local executives, support for your business ideas and ventures, and more.
2017 Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Minor in Entrepreneurship I didn’t start out at Wright State University. I initially started my postsecondary education at Ohio University where I learned a lot but found myself on the verge of failing out due to not being prepared for college. After a year and a half of schooling and 3 semesters of co-ops I decided to transfer to Wright State and I could not be happier with my decision. Upon arriving at Wright State, I found myself immediately engaged with academics here on campus, turning my grades around from a 2.0 GPA to a 3.5. |

B.A., M.B.A., Marketing
Wright State was the perfect place to support my entrepreneurship career goals. I received both my B.S. in business and M.B.A. at Wright State, which complemented my work experience and helped establish the career that I have today. My career started seven years ago as a Sherwin Williams market manager, where I gained in-depth knowledge about customer solutions. I was then recruited to work with CertaPro Painters as a commercial sales manager, where I won several sales awards. The business skills I learned at Wright State enhanced my success in each of these positions. |
