Business analytics is the practice of discovering business insights through exploration and analysis of business information and influence business decision-making through powerful and interactive visualization and data communication.

Our business world is fast growing with data. Modern organizations need to quickly understand a vast amount of data and extract the relevant and valuable information so the best decisions can be made in a timely fashion. Business analytics educates and develops such talent and skill sets. You can enhance your existing domain of knowledge with the power of analytics. Business analytics has helped many companies to better understand their business operations, predict customer demands, monitor production, and improve efficiency and quality.

The Business analytics concentration is also available for students who major in:

Careers

The career outlook for business analytics professionals is increasingly attractive. McKinsey, Gartner, and other research agencies report that the U.S. could face a shortage of 190,000 individuals who possess deep business analytic skills and an additional 1.5 million managers with the skill set to implement the results. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Payscale.com, average salaries of business analytics positions range between $75,000 and $88,000 with a bachelor’s degree and go above $90,000 with a master’s degree.

Real World Experience

Several of our marketing courses are focused on experiential learning, giving you the opportunity to gain experience by solving real business challenges and working with local businesses and executives.

You can develop marketing plans for local startups, or cultivate your own ideas as part of regular classwork. You will work with local entrepreneurs and businesses, like those affiliated with the Small Business Development Center, Air Force Research Labs, The Entrepreneur’s Center, and Wright State Research Institute. Our American Marketing Association of Wright State University (known as the Marketing Club) gives you the chance to develop professionally by applying your skills outside of the classroom.

Success Stories

Major: Accounting and Marketing

“I would like to take the business analytics because I would like to have a career where I make an impact. The exciting part is being able to understand real business situations and issues going on. Business analytics will help my career because I will be able to help business understand their strengths and weaknesses.”

At Wright State, it was never only about reading textbooks and memorizing facts. My courses allowed me to use what we were learning in applicable situations which often meant collaborating with local businesses. Real and tangible lessons were key to the education I got from WSU.
